992 was a landmark year for the dentist at the time, Spyros Markatselis, as it was not only the year his second son was born, but he also made the big decision to fulfill his student dream: to produce his own wine from his privately owned vineyards. So he decided, without wasting any more precious time, to replant his grandfather’s existing but aging vineyard with 40 new vines. Until 1998, the vineyard grew continuously. After the encouragement of friends and acquaintances, its creator was convinced to move on to the next stage: bottling and marketing the wine that until then he had produced exclusively for himself and his close circle.

The second son, Alexandros Markatselis, having grown up with influences around wine and its production method, studied Oenology and Viticulture and studied at the Agricultural University of Florence in Italy. He returned to his birthplace in 2020 full of knowledge and appetite to take over the reins of the winery. In the immediate future, the goals of the Markatselis winery are to create a new model state-of-the-art winery in the Thesprotia region, highlighting the indigenous varieties that have been almost abandoned and continuing the production of quality wines with respect for the raw material and the consumer.

It is the first winery (100 sq m) with a license to bottle wine and aromatic drinks (Vermouth) in Thesprotia. It can support and store about 10 tons of wine. It is divided into 3 areas. The wine and bottle storage area (cellar), the stainless steel tank area, and the bottling area. In the courtyard of the winery there is a tasting area and reception area for wine tours from April to October.
